Livingston Obituary: Joseph Falcone, Postal Worker, Boy Scout, School Volunteer

The Livingston community has bid a sad farewell to Joseph M. Falcone, 69, who passed away on Monday.

LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Essex County community has bid a sad farewell to Joseph M. Falcone, 69, who passed away on Monday.

Falcone, a Livingston native and Cedar Grove High School alum who also spent time in Millburn and West Orange, was active throughout the Essex County community, according to his obituary.

He was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 73 in West Orange, worked as a mail handler at the Livingston Post Office for 39 years, and helped out at the snack stand at Lancer football games.

Livingston school officials posted the following message of condolence about Falcone's passing:

“Joe is well-known and beloved to the school community. In addition to his work with the post office, Joe helped out at the snack stand at Lancer football games and was an equipment manager at Heritage Junior High School.”

The following obituary comes via the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home:

“Joseph M. Falcone, 69 passed away on August 14, 2017 in Livingston, NJ.

“Joe grew up in and spent his entire life in Livingston. He began his education at a variety of schools as Special Education was in it's infancy. He spent time in Millburn, West Orange, Livingston and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1968. During his later school years, Joe was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 73, West Orange, NJ which he thoroughly enjoyed.

“In 1969, he was hired by the Livingston Post Office where he spent 39 proud years as a Mailhandler. During his years both in school and at the Post Office, Joe was always very involved in many outside activities from helping out at the Haines Community Pool, to working at the Snack Stand at Livingston High Football games, to being an equipment manager at Heritage Junior High School, to helping out friends in the neighborhood. Joe was a huge Yankees, Rangers, Knicks, Jets fan who enjoyed all games either on TV or in person. He also enjoyed vacations at the Jersey Shore, Hilton Head, SC, Jupiter, FL and Martha's Vineyard, MA.

“During his lifetime, Joe was recognized with many awards and citations from the US Post Office for attendance and service, and for his suggestion for more efficiently moving the mail, to being honored by Elon University (his nephew Peter's alma mater) as being a Home Town Hero, to the US Post Office Region doing a promotional video on his work, to a special on Livingston Cable TV, to the West Essex Tribune highlighting him living alone to the Big L Club naming him #1 Sports Fan. Joe enjoyed his friends and family very much and has had a wonderful, full life and has left many happy memories to and with all he's come in contact with.

“Joe was predeceased by his parents Paul & Nettie. He leaves his brother Paul (Buddy) and wife Janet of Basking Ridge, his nephew Peter of Atlanta, GA, his nephew Michael and wife Jane of Denver, CO and his great nieces, Sophia and Lucy. Along with many cousins and wonderful friends. And last, but certainly not least his Caregiver Susanna.

“Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 4-9 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, August 18 at 10AM at St. Philomena's Church, Livingston, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

“In lieu of flowers a donation to The Livingston Big L Club, Livingston First Aid Squad or a charity of your choice in Joe's name would be appreciated.”
