OLD BRIDGE, NJ — A Manalapan man has now been charged with manslaughter and vehicular homicide for the June 2 death of his wife, Kristina Godich, on Rt. 9 in Old Bridge.

This is the fatal crash that occurred at 1:05 a.m. Saturday night (June 2) at the intersection of Rt. 9 and Ferry Road.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone alleges Benjamin Futerman, 32, was speeding on Rt. 9 when the BMW he was driving collided with another car. He and the other driver were both going in excess of 100 miles per hour, said the prosecutor.

According to Godich's obituary, they have one son.

On Wednesday, Futerman turned himself in to Old Bridge Police and was charged with one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and one count of second-degree vehicular homicide for his wife's death.

The car he crashed into at night was a Ford Mustang driven by Wilson Familia, 22, of Old Bridge, who police say was also going 100+ MPH. Three passengers in Familia's Mustang were also seriously injured. Other cars were involved in the collision, in what became a multi-car pile-up on Rt. 9; all other drivers and occupants involved in the crash were treated at the scene and released, said the prosecutor.

Police say both men were driving aggressively and recklessly. The two men did not appear to know each other prior to the crash.

On Monday of this week, Familia also turned himself in to Old Bridge Police and was charged with one count of second-degree aggravated assault, one count of fourth- degree assault by auto, and two counts of third-degree aggravated assault for the injuries sustained by his passengers.

Both Futerman and Familia had first appearances in Middlesex County criminal court, and were released to be monitored by police until trial.

The investigation was done by Officer Steve Connolly of the Old Bridge Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
