Man Sexually Abused Child For 10 Years, Morris Co. Officials Say

The man, 61, faces multiple sexual assault charges, as authorities accuse him of sexually abusing a boy beginning when the child was six.

MONTVILLE, NJ — Authorities announced multiple charges against a 61-year-old Morris County man, whom they say sexually assaulted a child over a period of ten years.

Juan A. Fernandez, a resident of the Towaco section of Montville, is being held in the Morris County Correctional Facility and officials filed a motion to keep him in custody until trial.

Officials said Fernandez faces three charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, five total counts of second-degree sexual assault, one charges of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and two charges of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and other law enforcement officials announced his arrest Monday, and said an investigation into the reported assaults began in March of 2024.

"It is alleged that the defendant performed multiple sexual acts on a juvenile male victim from the time the victim was six years old until he was sixteen years old," officials said.

Officials are continuing to investigate this crime and did not release further information.
