Princeton Warns Residents About Upcoming Storm

Princeton officials have asked residents to avoid flooded roadways and follow all detours, as a storm is expected in the region on Monday.

PRINCETON, NJ — A slow-moving coastal storm is expected to move through New Jersey on Monday night dumping up to four inches of rain, with potential for flooding across the state, forecasters said.

On Monday afternoon, Princeton warned residents about the upcoming storm and asked them to avoid flooded roadways.

"Tonight's forecast is calling for 2.5" - 3.5" of rain. It is anticipated this will last through the night and into tomorrow. There has been a flash flood watch posted, Please avoid flooded roadways and do not attempt to drive into flood waters. If there are any storm drains located by your house, please clear away any debris, if you are able," Princeton Department of Emergency and Safety Services said.

The township too asked residents to avoid flooded roadways and follow all detours.

A flash flood watch has been issued for all counties except Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem from 8 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the rain is predicted to take place Monday night into Tuesday, also scattered afternoon showers are also possible.

Higher-than-average temperatures are also predicted for the region this week, as Monday's forecast expects temperatures approaching the 80-degree mark in southern and central parts of the state.

Here's the latest forecast:

Monday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 p.m. Storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Low around 57. South wind around 5 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Heavy rainfall possible. High near 63. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. On Tuesday night, showers likely before 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 51. Breezy, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers before 8 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. North wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
