WAYNE, NJ — As remnants of Tuesday night's storm continue to afflict roadways in the Wayne area, Route 23 has been officially given the all-clear.

Police alerted motorists that Route 23 in Pequannock has now been opened in both directions.

The ramps at Alexander Ave. and Route 23 S and Jackson Ave. remain closed at this time until the water recedes, according to Pequannock Township Police.

"Please drive carefully," police said.

The local highway was closed on Wednesday morning due to flooding from a winter storm system that passed through the state.

The highway remained closed in both directions from the border in Wayne to the Newark Pompton Turnpike in Pompton Plains through Thursday morning.

The Pompton River is currently at 18 feet, indicating moderate flood conditions. The river crested on Wednesday at 20.38 feet, according to data from the National Weather Service.
