CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A Central Islip man was indicted for multiple charges on Wednesday in connection with leaving the scene of an accident, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.

Jamal Graham, 30, of Central Islip, was indicted for second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and other related charges after allegedly speeding down a residential road, running a stop sign and crashing into another vehicle occupied by a mother and two boys before fleeing the scene on foot, the DA said.

According to evidence established at trial, on May 29, 2023, at around 11:25 p.m., Graham was
allegedly driving a 2004 Infiniti G35 at a high rate of speed on Hale Street in Brentwood. When he reached the intersection of Hale Street and Lincoln Avenue, he allegedly ran a stop sign and crashed into a Nissan Rogue on Lincoln Avenue occupied by a mother, her teenage son and his friend, who were all injured in the crash, the DA said.

The mother and her son both underwent emergency surgery after the crash. According to the DA, portions of the mother’s intestines were removed while her son’s spleen was removed.

Nearby video surveillance captured the entire incident and allegedly shows Graham exiting his
vehicle and fleeing on foot after the collision, the DA said.

On July 8, Graham was arraigned and charged before County Court Judge Philip Goglas for two counts of second-degree assault, Class D felonies; two counts of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, Class E felonies; one count of third-degree assault, a Class A misdemeanor; one count of second-degree reckless endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor; and one count of reckless driving, an Unclassified misdemeanor, the DA said.

Goglas ordered Graham held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or a $1 million partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, the DA said. He is due back in court on July 16.

Graham is being represented by the Legal Aid Society.

“This horrific crash injured three occupants of a vehicle and was allegedly caused by a driver who barreled down a residential road at a high rate of speed, blew a stop sign, and then left the scene instead of calling the police or rendering aid to the victims,” Tierney said.
