Bitter Cold Forecast: Freezing Weather for New Rochelle

The coldest temps are forecast for tonight. Also you'll need your umbrella one day this week, too.

Now that we’re done with the snow—hopefully until next year—the story turns to the arctic blast we’re enduring, which doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

Though we’re into early April, the temps and windchill make it feel like February, and the worst of it is coming tonight.

The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for Dutchess and Columbia counties and a Freeze Warning for southern Westchester—but the bottom line is it will be freezing everywhere tonight in the Hudson Valley.

The low could be record-breaking (17 degrees is the record), according to Hudson Valley Weather.

Such a hard freeze can be damaging, the NWS points out, as the abnormal spring we have experienced so far this year has resulted in some early bud development on fruit trees and early plant growth.

The weather continues unseasonable through the rest of the work week. There's a brief warm-up Wednesday night into Thursday—which is when it is expected to rain. But temps start to drop again Thursday night, and by Friday night the low should be below 30 again.

Want to know just how topsy-turvy this is?

According to Bill Potter at Hudson Valley Weather, "Poughkeepsie saw 4.8″ of snow between October 2015, and March 2016. Then on April 3rd & 4th… Poughkeepsie recorded 5.6″! In less than 48 hours… Poughkeepsie saw more snow than it recorded in 6 months of winter. Ridiculous!"
