Snowy Start to April in Forecast for New Rochelle

There is a chance we could wake up Sunday and see some snow on the ground. And there's more snow in the forecast.

So I guess this means that the winter that wasn’t now doesn’t want to leave.

Granted today is April Fools, but it’s no joke that the forecast, which we already knew called for a chance of snow Saturday night, now is calling for chances of snow for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

First of all, we’re not talking a lot of snow for the Hudson Valley for Saturday but the fact that the National Weather Service is predicting some sort of snow accumulation is still noteworthy.

Only in the Hudson Valley can you go from near 70 degrees today and rain and thunderstorms to light snow and snow showers 24 hours later.

Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather said for Friday that temperatures will climb to around 70 degrees and there will be the chance for a few strong to severe thunderstorms.

He said he expects the High Wind Watches in effect for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties for Saturday night into Sunday to be expanded to the entire region. The winds on Sunday may gust as high as 50 mph.

“These NW winds will help usher in a colder air mass into the region. Highs in the 30s and 40s and lows into the teens and 20s are possible next week,” Potter said. “These colder temps will be accompanied with mutiple chances for snow as well.”

The forecast in brief, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Friday: Scattered thunderstorms; high in the upper-60s
  • Friday night: Mostly cloudy, chance of showers; low in the mid-40s
  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy, chance of showers; high in the mid- to upper-50s
  • Saturday night: Rain showers turning to snow showers, a dusting to an inch possible; low in the low around 33.
  • Sunday: Chance of snow showers early, partly cloudy and windy; high in the low-40s.
