Free Ice Skating Exhibition at Westchester Skating Academy

Rye Figure Skating Club and the Westchester Skating Academy will host a free Ice Skating Exhibition on Saturday, January 27.

From the Rye Figure Skating Club: Rye Figure Skating Club and the Westchester Skating Academy are hosting a free Ice Skating Exhibition on Saturday, January 27 from 1:30-2pm in celebration of U.S. Figure Skating National Skating Month. The exhibition will feature performances by award-winning local figure skaters from Rye FSC and two local synchronized skating teams, Skyliners and Team Image. The event is free to the public, and will take place at Westchester Skating Academy in Elmsford, NY.

“We have so many talented skaters from Westchester,” said Rye FSC president Martha Downen, “This exhibition will give local residents a chance to see our members’ exciting programs and hopefully inspire interest in the sport of figure skating for all levels and disciplines.”

A variety of skating disciplines will be highlighted at the Exhibition, including Solo Freestyle, Ice Dance and Synchronized Skating. Rye FSC Members Madeline Besgen (Preliminary Freestyle), Jessica Hamburg (Intermediate Freestyle), Sam Hodman (Novice Solo Dance), Amanda Park (Junior Freestyle) and Chloe Song (Beginner Freestyle) will perform, along with the Skyliners Beginner line and Team Image Intermediate line. Forty-three local skaters will perform in all.

The goal of National Skating Month, now in its 17th year, is to encourage U.S. Figure Skating member clubs to increase awareness and participation in the U.S. Figure Skating programs. USFS is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and the International Skating Union. It is comprised of more than 750 member clubs, collegiate clubs, and school-affiliated clubs and more than 1000 registered Basic
Skills skating schools representing more than 184,200 members. USFS is charged with the development of the sport on all levels within the United States including athletes, officials, sanctioning of events and exhibitions, and establishing the rules and guidelines by which the sport is governed.

Rye Figure Skating Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1937 with the purpose of encouraging figure skating in the local community. Celebrating its 80th Anniversary, the Club sponsors special skating clinics, seminars, test sessions and exhibitions throughout the year. Its 200 plus club members participate in all aspects and levels of skating including dance, freestyle and synchronized skating, ranging from beginner to national competitor. Volunteers maintain and support the Club.
