Vengeance Baseball’s Inaugural Season Soars

The Westchester-based team has earned notable tournament wins.

Vengeance is a powerful word, often associated with a desire to retaliate for a previous offense. In the case of the first-year Vengeance Baseball (aged 16U) tournament team, there were no paybacks to issue or punishments to inflict. Rather, the Westchester-based team’s 2021 summer season has featured a common theme of talented play by determined high school athletes from throughout NY and Connecticut, most of whom seek to play baseball on the college level. The efforts, and the success, of the program have already raised eyebrows amidst the competitive Northeast baseball landscape where new teams typically only rack up defeats in their inaugural seasons.

Tournament highlights for the Vengeance (16U) already include:

  • Sports on the Beach (Georgetown, DE) – reached consolation bracket finals (14 team tournament)
  • Baseball Heaven (Yaphank, LI) – shut out Team Parisi to earn playoff berth and defeated CPH Gators/A team in semi-finals prior to loss in championship to vaunted All Stars squad (15 team tournament)
  • Diamond Nation (Flemington, NJ) – went undefeated in the Summer Classic, finishing 4th of 44 teams and qualified for the Super 25 tournament later this month

Vengeance Baseball is coached by two experienced baseball coaching veterans – Pat Farina and Jamie Lent – who also had distinguished playing careers. Farina was a record breaking middle infielder at Westchester Community College, where he earned conference player of the year, prior to continuing his stand-out career at SUNY Cortland. He also has spent the past four years coaching teams and leading one-on-one training as well as conducting lessons. Lent is a former varsity baseball coach for Irvington High School, with a total of 23 years of coaching experience. He also was a 3-year starter for the SUNY-Albany baseball team where he earned All Conference honors. Leading up to the season, Farina and Lent guided the team through twice weekly winter workouts and assisted with the college recruiting process.
