PORT WASHINGTON, NY—Ale'Port Bar & Grill opened in Port Washington in early June, bringing a new sports bar with traditional pub fare to the area.

Wings, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, wraps and other items line the menu. Appetizers include a jumbo Bavarian pretzel, nachos, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and more. You can create your own jumbo hot dog or burger, in addition to the handful of pre-set burgers. That includes the store's specialty, the BaconCheeseWow, which sees its beef infused with bacon bits and topped with crunchy pickles, lettuce, sharp cheddar, red onion, tomato & garlic aioli in between bottom and top slices of smoked bacon slabs.

Christopher English, the restaurant's owner, said the name wasn't meant to be a pun on 'airport,' but rather pay homage to the primary beverage the bar serves and where it's located.

"We wanted to represent craft beer and ‘IPA Port’ didn’t really work," English told Patch. "Everybody knows what an ale is. We’re in Port Washington, so we kind of rolled with that. When we’re successful, I’d like to hit all the ‘Ports in Long Island. Greenport, Port Jefferson, all the ports."

Ale'Port features 24 beers on tap ranging from domestic to imported and features a wide variety of craft beers. There are 13 televisions placed throughout so customers can watch sporting events while they eat and drink. English said Ale'Port plans to air pay-per-view content, such as mixed martial arts bouts promoted by the Ultimate Fighting Championship, starting around fall.

English said the intended atmosphere falls somewhere between a quick-bite joint and a white tablecloth set-up. Nothing too quick but nothing too fancy, either.

"We serve sports fans, families with kids, all the way up to a 95-year-old sports fan who wants a great meal and to watch a game," English said.

Ale'Port Bar & Grill is located at 611 Port Washington Boulevard. The business's website is still in development and is expected to be done in a few weeks, though a full menu can be seen here in the meantime.

"Come on down, and enjoy yourself," English stated. "We'll take care of you."
