  1. Ronkonkoma man arrested after threatening elementary school staff on Friday. John Carroll, 63, drove into the parking lot of Cherokee Elementary School around 3 p.m. and yelled threatening statements at school staff, according to police. Carroll was later arrested at his home following an investigation by 4th Precinct Crime Section officers. (Sachem Patch)
  2. Ridge man dies after vehicle crashes into LIE divider. Christian Aviles was driving a 2017 Subaru Legacy westbound on the Long Island Expressway Saturday, a quarter mile east of Exit 61, when the vehicle struck the center divider around 4 a.m., according to police. Avila, 37, was taken to Stony Brook Hospital and pronounced dead. (Sachem Patch)
  3. Brookhaven Town Youth Bureau coat collection kicks off. The Youth Bureau will be holding the annual INTERFACE Coat Drive from now until Feb. 12. Residents can drop off donations of new or gently used, clean coats, scarves, hats, and gloves from infant to adult sizes at various locations.
