The rich artistic culture that is prevalent in Bucks County and in nearby Delaware River towns in New Jersey, has inspired Cindy Ruenes to paint the beauty that surrounds her. She had always been in awe of artistic ability but did not begin to study as an artist until 2000.

Ruenes creates landscape, still life and abstract paintings in oil and occasionally oil and cold wax. She generally produces her paintings alla prima (wet into wet paintings produced in one sitting) and almost always from a still life setup or en plein air.

Trained as a nurse, she works part-time as a biometric screener and health educator and as a vaccine nurse. She is equally involved in the music and art scene in the area. She is a singer-songwriter performing locally, singing and playing acoustic guitar and classical guitar. She performs with her brother, Steve Rocca, in the duet, Dark Hollow Road.

Kathie Jankauskas has been drawn to the arts since art camp as a kid. She graduated college with a degree in engineering but her other studies were focused on the arts.

As fate would have it, her first boss, Narendra Amin, was himself an accomplished artist. He encouraged her to keep her artistic core and throughout his life, was a good friend, art mentor and inspiration. As a mother her artistic energy was channeled into teaching her children to embrace creativity.

Returning to her own artistic roots, Kathie studied graphic arts and web design at BCCC. She then created Kjan Studio, providing small businesses in the greater Philly area with websites, logos, and print design. Her latest artistic pursuit and passion is oil painting. "I love the depth of color and energy that oils bring to the canvas," she said.

Kathie creates paintings of landscapes, still life, birds and animals in oils and mixed media.

Cindy and Kathie are both members of The Painters’ Collective, eight artists who are friends and supportive colleagues. They have their gallery at Prallsville Mills in Stockton, N.J.

The historic Stover Mill Gallery is located along the banks of the Delaware River, 852 River Road, Erwinna 18920. The gallery is handicapped accessible. Admission is free. For more information, call 610-294-9420.
