Council Rock To Vote On Summer Athletics Safety Plan

NEWTOWN, PA — Council Rock has released a draft of its Athletics Health and Safety Plan, which will be discussed and presented for approval at a special school board meeting Tuesday. The meeting, which will be held virtually, begins at 7 p.m.

The plan covers marching band activities as well.

If approved, the plan will be in place for voluntary, offseason workouts until Aug. 10. As more public health information becomes available, Council Rock administrators will work with health agencies and PIAA to release further guidance for the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

  • Health screenings: COVID- 19 health screenings will be required for all athletes, coaches, and staff before any practice, event, or team meeting.
  • Masks: Athletes will not be required to use face coverings while practicing or competing but should bring them to practices when social distancing is not possible. Coaches will be required to wear a mask during practice.
  • Social distancing: Encourage social distancing through increased spacing, small groups, and limited mixing between groups. If social distancing is not feasible masks should be worn. Appropriate social distancing will need to be maintained on sidelines and benches during practices and contests. Tape or paint may be used as a guide.
  • Isolation: Designate a place to isolate a student or employee if they should get sick.
  • Water bottles: Athletes and coaches must bring their own water bottle. Water bottles cannot be shared.
  • Athletic equipment: Equipment that may be used by multiple people must be cleaned after each use during practice and events. Soccer may use balls for foot drills, but no throw ins or heading drills. Football may not use balls for drills.
  • Hand sanitizer: Regular use of hand sanitizer is encouraged prior to, during, and after sessions.
  • Concession stands: When permitted to operate, concession stands must adhere to the guidance for businesses in the restaurant industry.
