Double Rainbow Stretches Across The Sky Above Newtown

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The skies turned dark late Friday afternoon as a heavy rain shower moved through Newtown.

As the dark clouds and rain moved to the east, a double rainbow appeared in the late afternoon sky above Newtown arching its way across the horizon in a rare spring sight.

Depending on the website you visit, double rainbows are either a rare or a common occurrence.

One site says, "Witnessing a double rainbow is a rare experience. Because it's so uncommon to spot a double rainbow, it's believed that they are a symbol of hope, good luck and prosperity coming your way."

Other sites disagree with the rarity of such a sight.

"A double rainbow is a wonderful sight where you get two spectacular natural displays for the price of one. Surprisingly, this phenomenon is actually relatively common, especially at times when the sun is low in the sky such as in the early morning or late afternoon."
