Fundraiser Launched To Bring Cat Cafe To Bucks Co.

A $25,000 fundraiser has been launched to bring a cat cafe to Bucks County.

A fundraiser has been launched to bring a cat cafe to Bucks County.

Eilene Shaffer, former educator and pet lover, is behind the effort to create the MeWow Cat Cafe. She tells Patch she has plans to open the cat cafe somewhere between Doylestown and Quakertown. The exact location is to be determined.

A $25,000 goal on Indiegogo has been established.

As Shaffer explains, a cat cafe is part cafe and part rescue.

"The cats will be provided by the Bucks County SPCA with back up from Kitty Junction. They are residents until adopted. They free roam in the cat room," she explained. The cafe will serve locally sourced coffee and desserts.

According to the fundraising page, the cafe will have a community room that is free to use for any educational purpose. "We will offer after school tutoring, pet care seminars, a fund raising platform for any group and space for all ages, needs or interests to gather for their cause," the page, launched by Shaffer, says.

The first step is finding a location.

"We are partnered with Bucks County SPCA and their reputation for their advocacy of animal rights precedes them. We are honored they believed in our adventure and will supply our cat residents. We are also partnered with Kitty Junction another laudable animal rescue should the need arise for additional cats," the page says.
