NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — "Music On The Street," an eight-concert series of free summer performances, continues on Thursday on historic State Street in Newtown Borough.

Presented by the Opus Outreach Foundation and sponsored by local businesses, the series is featuring a different band and musician every Thursday through August 29. The music begins at 6 p.m. in front of the Opus Elite building at 16 South State Street.

“We’re appealing to all audiences with our lineup. We have everything from solo artists to duos, trios to a full-fledged rock band,” said Mark Gatta of Opus Elite. “We have all different music, all different genres of music, everything from the 70s and 80s pop to rock and everything else.”

"I guess I’m a little eccentric, and I embrace it. I want to get people involved at my shows and interact with them. I want it to be more than just me playing music for 3 hours. I want the people that come out randomly to a venue I’m playing to stay because they enjoy the show. If you’re not having fun, then I’m certainly not either."

Cara performs at various venues across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, such as River House at Odette's, Naked Brewing, Shady Brook Farm, El Barrio Cantina, HopsScotch22, Under The Moon, and of course Broken Goblet Brewing, where she hosts First Friday every month.

The series continues August 15 with the Anders Hyatt Trio sponsored by Triple Sun Spirits, August
22 with John Thomas sponsored by 4EverYoung Anti Aging Solutions and August 29 featuring Meg Russell sponsored by Giovanni’s Fine Fashions and Custom Tailoring.

During the concerts, the Opus Elite office will be open and offering complementary refreshments and an air-conditioned retreat from the heat. “Concertgoers are welcome to come in, enjoy the snacks, use the restroom if they need to or just to cool down,” said Gatta.

Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets, order some food to enjoy from a nearby restaurant and find a spot on the sidewalk to enjoy the music, said Gatta.

Gatta said while each performance is free and sponsored by Newtown businesses, he encourages attendees to make a donation to the Opus Outreach Foundation. The foundation supports local families in need, he said.

“There are no administrative costs so every dollar raised goes to the foundation and helping people in the community," Gatta continued. "We also ask that you support our business sponsors because they are the ones providing the free music.”
