NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The borough council will take a historic vote on Tuesday to hire the borough’s first manager.

In an update at Wednesday’s work session meeting, Council President Emily Heinz reported that a motion will appear on the agenda to hire a manager.

“The executive recruitment committee has chosen a truly well qualified candidate who will serve our borough wonderfully,” said Heinz. “The remainder of council has met with the candidate and we look forward to voting at our meeting next week."

The full-time borough administrator is expected to start their new duties at the end of the month.

While Council had debated adding the position in the past, it was the resignation of its long time borough treasurer Pat Ours that brought the idea back to the council table last year. Ours retired in October.

The borough began its search last fall, hiring the nonprofit Meyner Center to assist with the search and recruitment process. The council, however, suspended its search at year's end handing over the process to the incoming council.

The new council resumed the search in late January with a new executive recruitment committee in place and with the assistance of the Meyner Center.

The borough’s executive search committee included Mayor John Burke, Council President Heinz, and councilors Mary Ellen Reymond and Julia Woldorf.
