Newtown Township Couple Killed In Flooding To Be Laid To Rest Tuesday

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Linda and Enzo DePiero, who died in last week’s flash flooding in Upper Makefield, will be remembered this week during a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 25 at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road Newtown 18940.

Enzo and Linda, of Newtown Township, were swept away together by the flash floods in Washington Crossing on Saturday, July 15, 2023, after coming back from an early dinner date at their favorite restaurant, It’s Nutts.

According to their obituary, Enzo was born in Cordenons, Italy, and worked as a civil engineer. Linda was born in Philadelphia and worked in various administrative support roles, including positions at The Spectrum and Bristol Meyers Squibb.

They fell in love one summer at Margate Beach in New Jersey. Married for more than 40 years, they had one child, Zack, who they raised in Trenton, N.J. The family later moved to Newtown where they spent the rest of their lives. Their home was their sanctuary: cucumbers and tomatoes grew in the garden, and Philly sports and Action News played on the TV.

Their family expanded when Zack married Sabira Khan from San Jose, California. A few years later Enzo and Linda welcomed a granddaughter – Serafia or “Fifi” – who instantly became the brightest light in their lives. Fifi enjoyed weekly sleepovers at “Bitz” and “Popsie’s” house where she snacked on yogurt, cheese sandwiches, and water ice while watching her favorite shows, making art, and spending time at the nearby playground.

According to their obituary, Linda and Enzo blossomed into the perfect grandparents: Fifi often referred to them as her best friends, and the feeling was mutual.

Linda and Enzo are survived by their son, Zack; a daughter-in-law, Sabira; and granddaughter, Serafia “Fifi” DePiero. Linda is survived by a sister, Martha Lombardo, and her husband, Bruce, and a brother, Nick Mavros, and his wife, Joy. Enzo is survived by two older siblings: Vanilia Brackel and Juliano DePiero and his wife, Joanne.
