Newtown Township Declares Snow Emergency

The snow emergency goes into effect at 6 a.m. Thursday and lasts until 6 p.m. Friday.

NEWTOWN, PA — Newtown Township Manager Micah Lewis has declared a snow emergency effective at 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday.

During the emergency, residents are not allowed to park their vehicles on any road or street within the township. Depending upon conditions, the emergency may be extended.

The Council Rock School District will close Thursday for in-person learning. The day will be an asynchronous virtual learning day for all students.

Wrightstown Township has also declared a snow emergency that will take effect at 6 a.m. Thursday and last until 6 p.m. Friday.

A winter storm watch remains in effect for the area until 1 p.m. Friday. The heaviest snow is expected to come Thursday morning through early Thursday afternoon, with sleet and freezing rain mixing in later in the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. Light wintry precipitation should continue into the daytime hours on Friday.

Total snow and sleet accumulations of 5 to 8 inches and small ice accumulations are possible.

In response to the incoming weather, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission plan to implement travel restrictions on trucks and other vehicles on certain roadways. Additional speed and vehicle restrictions may be added depending on the current conditions. Any restrictions added during the storm can be found here.
