BUCKS COUNTY, PA — If you're like many Bucks County residents, you've probably seen spotted lanternflies on your property. And as a result, you may have questions about the invasive species.

Well, now you'll have a chance to get those questions answered by an expert.

A panel of Penn State Bucks County Master Gardeners are holding a free Spotted Lanternfly Q&A live session on Sept. 19 from 9 to 10 a.m. The Q&A will be held via Zoom. To participate, you can register here.

You can submit up to three questions along with your registration. All submitted questions will be addressed and answered during the live session. If time allows, live questions will also be taken.

The roughly inch-long plant hopper is a native to China, India and Vietnam. It feeds off at least 25 species of plants found in Pennsylvania, and it threatens some of the state's highly valuable products including grapes, apples, stone fruit and hardwood.

The invasive species could impact the state's economy to the tune of $324.9 million per year, according to Penn State researchers. Scientists have said a "vigorous" response by the state and U.S. Department of Agriculture is needed to prevent the "potentially devastating" impacts on the state economy.

Local governments have warned residents about the threat, with one Eastern Pennsylvania town going so far as to host a "smash-a-thon" to help eradicate the insect from their community.
