NEWTOWN, PA— Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Francesca who nominated her son, Thayer, of Newtown.

How do you know the star local student?

I’m his mother

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

My son is an example of persistence above his own challenges and empathy and understanding for others. He rose above dyslexia and parental divorce to shine, as student and an actor on the stage at George School. He also won the most points as an equestrian last year and would have been a team captain if he had not had to choose between plays and the horse arena. He bravely joined the pilot of George School’s "All Gender Housing," paving the way for the needs of kids to come. He is the only male on a dorm floor of kids who have varying identities. He has shown leadership on the student activity board, has been a peer counselor and has Head of School recognition. He is a straight A student and a senior at George School.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

He never gives up on himself or on others.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Thayer.
