BUCKS COUNTY — The National Weather Service has confirmed there was a tornado in Bucks County Tuesday. It was one of six tornadoes in the region as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias, which forged its destructive path through the region Tuesday.

The NWS on Wednesday morning said it had confirmed the tornadoes — two of which happened in suburban Philadelphia. In addition to the one in Bucks County, another was confirmed in Montgomery County.

NWS meteorologist Nicholas Carr confirmed to Patch Tuesday that the agency was investigating a tornado in the Doylestown area. The information released Wednesday by that agency does not indicate the specific location of the confirmed tornado.

The full investigation "will likely take several days to complete, and it is possible that additional damage from the tornadoes may be found," the weather service said in a statement.

An EF-scale rating for each tornado has not yet been released.

The destructive storm passed through the area around 11:15 a.m. and caused damage to buildings and cars. It left local neighborhoods scattered with debris, toppling mailboxes, and downing trees and power lines.

The high winds caused extensive damage at the Doylestown Hospital campus and were strong enough to blow off a portion of the roof of the Children's Village, an onsite childcare facility. Additionally, six cars that were in the parking lot were overturned by the winds, hospital officials said.

Several roads were closed due to flooding, and more than 97,000 Bucks County residents have no power in the afternoon. By Wednesday morning, 42,000 residents in the county remained without service.

In addition to the tornadoes in Bucks and Montgomery county, two tornadoes from the storm system were confirmed at the Jersey Shore. Kent and New Castle counties in Delaware and Queen Anne's County, Maryland also experienced tornadoes.
