SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A Providence man was convicted of raping a woman at a South Kingstown home in 2020, Attorney General Peter Neronha said Wednesday.

Aaron Lewis, 38, was found guilty Monday of two counts of first-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors said Lewis will be held without bail until his sentencing hearing at a later date.

"We must hold accountable perpetrators of sexual violence and strive for justice on behalf of victims," Neronha said. "Each successful prosecution of a sexual assault helps other victims realize they are not alone, and that justice is possible. I am grateful to the South Kingstown Police Department for their outstanding work and advocacy in this case."

During the trial, prosecutors proved that on May 24, 220, Lewis raped a woman he knew at a South Kingstown home.

That night, both Lewis and his victim attended a house party. During the party, Lewis made several sexual advances towards the victim, each of which was rebuffed. Later that night, Lewis sexually assaulted his victim while she slept, according to prosecutors.
