South Kingstown Woman 3 Times Over Legal Limit Charged With DUI: PD

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A South Kingstown woman was arrested Friday after police said she was drunkenly driving more than three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Donna O'Keefe, 57, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs-0.15 blood-alcohol or greater (first offense).

Police said they pulled over O'Keefe after officers saw her driving erratically on Route 138. During the traffic stop, she admitted to drinking alcohol, was unsteady on her feet, and had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath, according to police. Police said O'Keefe's blood-alcohol level was 0.246.

"We continue to see two frightening trends: drivers who are impaired during the day and those who are far over the legal BAC limit," Police Chief Matthew Moynihan said. "We urge people to make better choices so that they do not hurt themselves or others. Designate a driver, stay over, or call a ride-share, but do not get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking or using drugs."

O'Keefe is scheduled to appear in Washington County District Court in Wakefield on Dec. 7.
