ACROSS AMERICA — Good morning! It's Tuesday, Oct. 26. As you head out the door, here's a look at the stories we're following today:

  • It rained 16 inches or more in some parts of California, which was hit with a bomb cyclone storm that's continued to drench the state.
  • A mother who gave birth to quadruplets in Georgia is asking for help because she and her husband obviously weren't counting on having four kids at once.
  • Rutgers University in New Jersey said all 25,600 of its employees must be vaccinated against the coronvirus if they want to continue working there.
  • School board members in Pennsylvania said they have been the target of death threats.

Record Rain In California

Torrential downpours came with the weekend arrival of an atmospheric river storm system to the Bay Area, shattering rainfall records in drought-stricken California. Also dubbed a "bomb cyclone," the massive storm toppled trees, flooded homes and busy highways, prompted evacuations and cut power to about 380,000 people. Atmospheric rivers are "relatively long, narrow regions in the atmosphere — like rivers in the sky," according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. A bomb cyclone occurs when a storm undergoes bombogenesis, meaning it rapidly intensifies over a 24-hour period, according to NOAA. » 'Staggering' Rain In California, via San Francisco Patch

Mom Of Quadruplets Needs Help

When a Georgia woman got pregnant earlier this year, she was surprised to learn that it wasn't just with one baby — it was with four. Madison Collier, 33, of Marietta, found out at her eight-week appointment in April that she was pregnant with quadruplets, Fox 13 reported — which only occurs in 1 in 700,000 natural pregnancies, according to Jackson Health System. She and her husband, Justin, had only planned to have two kids — and they are already parents to a 3-year-old daughter, Isla. So when Justin found out about quadruplets, Madison said he had to lie down on the floor because he felt faint. » Baby Boom: 4 Babies At Once In Rare Pregnancy, How To Help, via Marietta Patch

Rutgers: You Must Be Vaccinated If You Want To Work Here

Rutgers University is now telling all of its employees, from tenured professors to dining hall workers, that they must be fully vaccinated against coronavirus by Dec. 8 or risk being fired from their jobs. Rutgers said it wants to be in compliance with President Joe Biden's mandate, issued Sept. 9, that federal contractors be vaccinated against COVID-19. Rutgers said it considers all of its employees as falling into this category, as Rutgers receives federal grants and funds. "President Biden's executive order supersedes other state or local rules, regulations, laws or executive orders. It does not allow for a regular testing option for those employees who choose not to be vaccinated," announced Rutgers Chief Operating Officer Antonio Calcado. » Rutgers Issues Vaccine Mandate For All 25,600 Employees, via New Brunswick Patch

Deaths Threats Directed At Pennsylvania School Board Members

The president of the Pennsbury School Board of Directors said she will be in contact with the FBI after she and two other members of the board received death threats and other disturbing messages over email and text message in recent months. Christine Toy-Dragoni said in a news release last week that she has received messages at her district-issued email address, in private messages over social media and messages on her phone that suggest that every woman in her family should be raped, that every man in her family should be seriously injured and that she should be murdered. The recipient of one email, which was redacted by the district, was told to "do the world a favor" by purchasing a gun and bullet and putting the gun in her mouth and pulling the trigger. Another said that the recipient was "done" and needed to grow eyes in the back of her head, in a message that included an expletive. » Pennsbury School Board President To Contact FBI Over Threats, via Levittown Patch
