ACROSS AMERICA — With back-to-school shopping expected to cost Americans $38.8 billion this year, scoring the best deals is as important for parents as finding the best first-day-of-school look is to their children.

The National Retail Federation estimates families with children will spend an average of $875 to outfit their kids and buy school supplies and electronics.

K-12 shoppers are budgeting about $310 on average for electronics, $255 for clothing and accessories, and $140 for school supplies.

College students and their families are expected to spend an average of $1,365 getting ready for the 2024–25 academic year, with total spending around $86.6 billion, according to the retail trade group’s survey.

Best Buy is offering up to 40 percent savings off laptops, phones, tablets and other essentials.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is offering back-to-school savings on athletic wear, outerwear and accessories.

Gap is offering savings of 40 percent to 60 percent off kids clothing, and affiliated brand Old Navy has tees and leggings starting at $5, polos and graphic tees starting at $6, shorts starting at $7 and activewear starting at $8. Banana Republic, another Gap brand, has marked down select styles by as much as 40 percent. Athleta brand stores also have back-to-school sales going on.

eBay is offering up to 70 percent off laptops, tablets, dorm room furniture and appliances, sneakers, sweatshirts, musical instruments and cameras.

JCPenney has sales on clothing, shoes, backpacks and accessories, and also has a coupon for teachers.

Kohl’s back-to-school sale includes discounts on clothing, shoes and accessories, backpacks and lunch boxes,

Microsoft is offering savings of up to 50 percent off Surface tablets, gaming consoles and accessories, and refurbished devices.

Nike is offering up to 40 percent off and an additional 25 percent off with the code SPORT25.

Office Depot is offering savings of up to 60 percent off school supplies and has several items on sale for less than a dollar, including notebooks, crayons and art supplies, and pens, pencils and markers, and also has teacher deals.

PUMA is offering discounts of up to 60 percent in its private sale event, or 20 percent savings for people who sign up for email promotions.

Reebok is offering up to 50 percent off select merchandise ordered online with the code BACKTOSCHOOL.

Samsung is offering savings of up to 30 percent off phones, earbuds, fitness trackers and other electronics.

Staples is selling notebooks, pencils, markers, crayons and folders for under a dollar. Binders, scissors and other items cost less than $3.

Target is offering deals starting at 25 cents on school essentials and savings of up to 40 percent on tech accessories, plus discounts on school uniforms and other clothing, shoes and accessories.
