BERMUDA RUN, NC — Only 11 players in the 92-year history of the PGA have shot a 57.

Count 16-year-old Macy Pate among them.

Pate, a sophomore at Reagan High School in Pfafftown, shot a 57 — good for 14 under par — at Bermuda Run Country Club. It was the lowest golf score by a high school player in state history, girls and boys.

"It was very exciting,” Pate said told the Winston-Salem Journal. “It’s really hard to describe what was going on and I just sort of hit the shots and tried to make the putts when I had chances ... I made two birdie putts with one about 20 feet and one that was 15 feet so there was nothing crazy long that I made.”

Pate shot 27 on the front nine and 30 on the back nine — something 99 percent of golfers will never achieve.
