ACROSS AMERICA-- As week one of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics comes to a close, Team USA has dominated the overall medal count. As of this morning our athletes have won forty medals in various sports from gymnastics and swimming to fencing and rugby. Not a bad start to the first week and our athletes have been slowly closing in on the gold medal count with China leading the pack.

Team USA's men's and women's gymnastics teams have commanded the news this week as Simone Biles won her second all-around gymnastics gold medal, the women's team won the artistic gymnastics team final and the men's team finally ended a decades long olympic drought by snagging the bronze medal in the artistic gymnastic team final. The gymnastics team were not the only ones having a stellar week at the Olympics, as the swim team also scooped up several medals. Katie Ledecky and Caleb Dressel were able to pick up their record 13th and 8th medal respectively with the help of their teammates in relay races.

The first week of the Olympics also saw plenty of firsts for Team USA. The women's rugby sevens team won their first Olympic medal in the bronze match game against Australia on Tuesday. The women's fencing team also took home the first ever gold medal for team foil, beating Italy on Thursday.
