Democratic Sen. Harry Reid served as majority leader through two presidencies and was the longest-serving member of Congress from Nevada.
WASHINGTON, DC — Colleagues, family and friends gathered in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday to remember former Nevada Sen. Harry Reid. Reid, who suffered from pancreatic cancer, died last month at the age of 82. He lay in state under the Capitol Rotunda while Vice President Kamala Harris and former colleagues paid tribute to his prolific history in Congress.
Reid served alongside two presidents as the Senate majority leader and is the longest-serving member of Congress from the state of Nevada.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York remembered the former senator's passion to to help families. "Few have shaped the workings of this building like our dear friend from Nevada,” he said. "Few have dedicated their lives to the work of the people quite like Harry did."
