ACROSS AMERICA — Louisiana State University brought home its first basketball championship, men's or women's, under the leadership of Kim Mulkey in the NCAA Women's March Madness Basketball Tournament title game Sunday.

“I turn around and look at the Final Four banners (in the home arena), nowhere did it say national champion,” Mulkey said. “That’s what I came home to do.”

Mulkey cried tears of joy as her team reigned supreme against Iowa with a whopping 102-85 win. The 102 points broke the previous high of 97 that Texas scored against Southern California in 1986.

About 9.9 million people tuned in Sunday to watch LSU rebounding star Angel Reese and Iowa's 3-point shooter Caitlin Clark put on a show in the title game, shattering the previous record of 5.7 million for an NCAA women's tournament game, ESPN said Monday. That record, when Connecticut won the title, had stood since 2002.
