Celebrate Highwood is proud to announce its Annual <a href="https://www.celebratehighwood.org/bloody-mary-fest/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bloody Mary Fest</a> will be held on Sunday, August 18 from 10 AM-5 PM in Everts Park (111 North Ave) when the traditional Bloody Mary takes on a new spirit as over a dozen vendors from near and far shake up their unique concoctions as they compete for the ‘Proud Mary’ Award. 
As the Bloody Mary has evolved, so has Celebrate Highwood’s beloved Fest and for the second year, they’ve added a twist to their annual Bloody Mary Fest and paired the traditional Bloody Mary with a variety of spirits, including tequila, rum, gin, and beer. Mixologists from competing bars and restaurants will have the opportunity to share their one-of-a-kind recipes while attempting to create the ultimate tomato-based cocktail.
The public are encouraged to vote for their favorite tomato-based beverage in the People’s Choice ‘Proud Mary’ Competition. Attendees can cast their vote using the QR code ballot sponsored by <a href="https://www.highlandparkbank.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Highland Park Bank &amp; Trust/Bank of Highwood-Fort Sheridan</a> until 4 PM. The winner will be announced from the main stage at 4:30 PM, and rewarded with a trophy, mass recognition throughout the local media, and bragging rights for the entire year! The contestants will be throwing a hail mary with their drinks to try to win this distinguished award.
“Highwood's Annual Bloody Mary Fest brings the entire community together and attracts thousands of visitors from all over Chicagoland, Wisconsin and Indiana," says Eric Falberg, President of Celebrate Highwood and Highwood Alderman. “This twist on our annual Bloody Mary Fest will offer new combinations of spirits and garnishes, and participating vendors will bring on their A game in a hail mary pass!”
The original Bloody Mary started as a simple concoction of vodka and tomato juice, and then became a spectacle including garnishes ranging from just celery, to meats, cheeses, seafood, and sandwiches! As the popularity of the Bloody Mary grew and the public’s pallet has expanded to other favorite spirits, the 2024 Bloody Mary Fest will again feature a plethora of custom drinks stemming from the Green Mary, made with tomatillos, the Michelada, which switches the typical vodka out for beer, the Bloody Maria, made with tequila, and the Red Snapper, made with gin. 
Aside from a variety of Bloody Mary-style beverages, attendees will enjoy plenty of food, drink, artisan vendors, and live music by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/steviecraigmusic/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Stevie Craig</a> from 11 AM-1:30 PM and <a href="https://www.wallyswiatly.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Simply Wally Duo</a> from 2:30-5 PM. 
For those that may not be Bloody Mary fans, don't fret, the Fest will also offer plenty of other beverages for attendees of all ages. Making it easily accessible, Highwood is a stop on the <a href="https://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/maps_schedules/metra_system_map/up-n/station.HIGHWOOD.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Union Pacific North Metra line</a> and is only a short walk to the Fest grounds at Evert’s Park.

Labor Day Weekend, August 30 - September 1, Downtown Highwood
Watch Highwood transform into Nashville over Labor Day weekend. Highwood restaurants and bars will feature 100 free, live country, southern blues, classic and contemporary rock from beginning Friday happy hour and running all day and evening Saturday and Sunday. Attendees (21+) can purchase tickets to board the Cocktail Barrel Bus where they will enjoy cocktails and live music while on a one hour tour around Nashwood.
<ul><li>The Annual Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival &amp; Skeletons on Display with Pumpkin Town USA</li></ul>
October 4–6, Downtown Highwood (Community Night &amp; Opening Carnival October 3)
The Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival and Skeletons on Display is the biggest outdoor celebration on Chicago’s North Shore featuring all-you-can-carve pumpkins, nightly lightings of pumpkin-filled walls, carnival rides, costume contests, trick or treating, two stages with live music and entertainment, hundreds of skeletons displays depicting the history of rock and roll, hayrides, food and beverage vendors and so much more! As of recent years, the abundance of Alzheimer’s cases have risen significantly in the United States with the awareness of this disease still being minuscule. Many victims of this disease, as well as their caregivers are left without the proper knowledge that would help improve the care and life experience of themselves and their families. Cheryl Levin-Folio, a Highland Park native and author, was wanting to offer guidance for those in similar circumstances as hers, being a caregiver to her late husband, when she wrote her book <a href="https://about:blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer's</a>.
As her late husband, Michael Folio’s voice of building awareness, Levin-Folio urges the public to be aware of the early signs. “I hear people in their 50’s continually joke about having ‘senior moments’. The earlier these symptoms begin the quicker the disease evolves. The fact is, with the greater awareness of dementia, the diagnosis of early onset is on the rise. I am urging people to recognize, in addition to their genetics, that dementia is not a normal form of the aging brain. People should not be in denial. They need to address these issues and seek a neurologist that specializes in dementia.”
In 2024, Levin-Folio’s focus is on educating the public on the greater dementia umbrella. Alzheimer’s is only one form. Other dementias include Lewy Body, Frontotemporal, Vascular, and Parkinson’s. Recently, the FDA has approved a new medication that will provide hope for people with early onset Alzheimer’s. “That is why it is crucial for early detection,” states Levin-Folio.
As an Alzheimer’s advocate, Levin-Folio will be partnering with her <a href="https://www.enaz.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">ENAZ</a> ‘work family’ at the 6th
 Annual Fall Fashion + Fundraising event on Saturday, September 7 from 10AM-5PM at all three ENAZ locations in Highland Park, Northfield, and Lake Forest and online. ENAZ will proudly donate 10% of all sales, with Team Levin-Folio matching another 10% to her <a href="https://act.alz.org/site/TR;jsessionid=00000000.app20004a?px=10630446&amp;fr_id=16527&amp;pg=personal&amp;NONCE_TOKEN=7F66642D87EF1D6B4B4FE0F15FEEB4DF" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">North Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s</a> fundraising page.
“ENAZ was our favorite place to shop before Michael was afflicted with Alzheimer’s,” reflects Levin-Folio. “I recall after his diagnosis, he would always want to take me back to shop and pick out the same items for me, and the wonderful staff at ENAZ would graciously respect his wishes.”
The support shown by the staff had such a profound effect on Levin-Folio that, after Michael’s passing, she decided to work for the retail store and partner with them to create the Annual Fall Fashion + Fundraising Event. 
“We love having Cheryl a part of our ENAZ family and feel privileged to be able to honor Michael’s memory with her,” says Lena Lurie Blitstein, co-owner of ENAZ. “We want to help all those who are afflicted by Alzheimer’s and all other dementia’s at our Shop-for-a-Cause Fall Fashion + Fundraiser.”

ENAZ's 6th Annual Fall Fashion + Fundraising Event (9/7/24) for the Walk to End Alzheimer's

The City of Highland Park is turning back the clock and bringing the ultimate musical throwback experience to <a href="https://www.enjoyhighlandpark.com/the-lot" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Lot</a> (525 Central Ave.) with Decades Fest. Fantastic headlining entertainers will perform iconic hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, bringing together decades of music fans!
Travel back in time to experience the groovy sounds, rad tastes, and cool trends from these three decades through a selection of live performances and food and beverage vendors. An interactive “Decades of Music” trail throughout downtown Highland Park businesses adds an element of adventure to this event. Stick around after sundown for a totally tubular Decades-themed drone show!

Take this card with you along an interactive trail through downtown Highland Park businesses to collect a sticker at each participating business. Completed sticker cards can then be redeemed back at The Lot from noon to 9 PM for a $10 coupon which can be used at any of the participating on-site restaurants vendors during the event. In addition, all completed and redeemed cards will be entered into a drawing: one lucky winner will receive a grand prize basket valued at $500. The winner will be announced onstage stage at 9:30 PM (guest must be present to win).
With all the moving and grooving, attendees are bound to work up an appetite. Community picnic celebrating those who serve and care in our community

Art Impact Project is being spotlighted on the Ruth Fell Wander Community Art Wall located in the lobby of First Bank of Highland Park. The new exhibit highlights their of enhancing emotional wellness through creative expression.
Art Impact Project was founded in 2014 by Vickie Marasco to design and deliver art programming to specifically help adolescents struggling with emotional wellness issues and substance abuse recovery. The idea came from Vickie&rsquo;s personal experience with her teenage son and other teens in recovery who found it difficult to express the deep emotions behind their struggles.
Since its inception, Art Impact Project continues to provide the original project objectives and program model, but has expanded its mission and reach to include young adults and adults as well as adolescents and to focus on emotional wellness concerns of all levels. They are able to serve many in need of healthier coping skills, emotional awareness, and expression through their partnerships with schools, after school programs, mental and behavioral health facilities, a domestic violence and human trafficking crisis center, recovery sites and an inmate program at the Lake County Jail.
&ldquo;Art Impact Project is so grateful to have the support of First Bank Highland Park in our efforts to to provide wellness through arts programming in Lake County. We have supported more than 2,000 individuals this past year alone in our small group settings for teens, adults, and seniors, in collaboration with community partners including Deerfield High School, North Chicago Community High School, Nicasa Behavioral Health, Brushwood Center, and many more organizations,&rdquo; said Liz Fales, Executive Director.
Artwork showcased on the Highland Park Art Wall highlights their mission of enhancing emotional wellness through creative expression. Fales continues, &ldquo;we are honored to showcase the artwork of our community participants at the First Bank Highland Park Art Wall. Mental health and overall wellness support is needed in our communities now more than ever &ndash; we thank First Bank of Highland Park for their partnership!&rdquo; said Liz Fales, Executive Director.
