LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Scammers impersonating sheriff's deputies are targeting Loudoun County residents to seek money, according to the sheriff's office.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said there has been an increase in reports about a jury duty scam. Scammers will call Loudoun County residents and pretend to be sheriff's office command staff and deputies. The scammers may often use legitimate names and ranks while saying victims need to pay a fine due to missed jury duty. Victims will be asked to pay to avoid jail time.

The sheriff's office says it does not call residents and demand payment for missed jury duty. When a resident does miss jury duty, the Loudoun County Circuit Court will send a written notice outlining what actions are needed.
