STERLING, VA — After a firefighter was killed in a home explosion in Sterling Friday night, the community has been giving back to firefighters and the resident who lost her home. A procession was held Tuesday for fallen firefighter Trevor Brown, and funeral information has been released.

Brown, 45, died in a home explosion in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive in a neighborhood north of Route 7. The explosion injured 11 other firefighters and two residents.

Brown of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, had been with the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System since 2016. He is survived by his wife and three children, WTOP reported.

Brown was escorted from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manassas to Leesburg starting around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. The procession route followed Route 234 to eastbound I-66, northbound Route 28 to westbound Route 7 into the Town of Leesburg. The route ended by turning left on Catoctin Circle in Leesburg.

A funeral for Brown will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4 at Cornerstone Chapel, 650 Battlefield Parkway SE, Leesburg, VA. More detailed information will be released as it becomes available, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.

"As we continue to navigate this difficult time, we are incredibly appreciative of the kindness and generosity shown towards our system members, their families and loved ones," Loudoun County Fire and Rescue said in a statement. "Please continue to keep Firefighter Brown’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we ask that the family’s privacy be respected. Additionally, please keep our system members who sustained injuries during this incident in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to recover, both at home and in area hospitals."

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is accepting donations to the Loudoun First Responders Foundation, which provides immediate financial support to active first responders. Donors can designate donations to the family of Firefighter Trevor Brown, by writing "Brown Family" in the memo line. Other unspecified donations will benefit the injured firefighters.

Residents may also donate goods or services by emailing [email protected]. Condolences to Brown's family and encouragement to the injured first responders can be sent to [email protected].

Another fundraiser is helping the homeowner who lost her home in the explosion. Kelley Woods and two of her dogs survived the incident but “lost everything” in the explosion that also killed 45-year-old Sterling volunteer firefighter Trevor Brown, according to the GoFundMe. The fundraiser has collected over $65,000 as of Tuesday morning.

"The outpouring of support has been extremely generous, and Kelley is so humbled by it. Words cannot express enough how grateful she is," the fundraiser organizer shared in an update. "This is such a wonderful highlight of the light that still shines in the world."

A separate fundraiser is helping the roommate of Woods, Maria Pia Apolonio. According to the GoFundMe, Apolonio lost all her possessions and does not have family locally.
