STERLING, VA — A GoFundMe has been started for the Sterling woman whose house exploded Friday, injuring a dozen people and killing a firefighter.

Kelley Woods and two of her dogs survived the incident but “lost everything” in the explosion that also killed 45-year-old Sterling volunteer firefighter Trevor Brown, according to the GoFundMe, which had raised more than $46,000 as of Sunday afternoon.

Emergency personnel responded Friday night to a gas leak in the 300 block of Silver Ridge Drive and found a 500-gallon underground propane tank that was leaking. They were investigating the home when the explosion happened, killing Brown and sending 10 firefighters and two civilians to area hospitals.

“Her home and everything she owned are now gone,” the GoFundMe said. “If you'd like to donate to help Kelley get on her feet while navigating and waiting for the insurance process please do so and share.”

The impact of the blast and its debris spanned the residential block, according to WTOP.

“We walked around the corner and we saw the house all in flames,” Chris Voloshin, who lives six houses away and felt the explosion, told the outlet, adding there was insulation in his yard. “Couldn’t believe that that’s what we heard and that’s what we felt.”

Brown had been with the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System since 2016.

"Please keep Firefighter Brown’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we ask that the family’s privacy be respected," Loudoun County Fire and Rescue shared.
