FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The University of Mary Washington is hosting auditions for people interested in serving as emcees, public address announcers, team mascots and national anthem performers for the Fredericksburg Nationals. The FredNats are holding the auditions in preparation for the team's first home game at a new stadium in Fredericksburg on April 23.

Emcee and public address announcer tryouts will take place Saturday, Feb. 29, and national anthem and mascot auditions will be held Saturday, March 21. Both will take place in UMW’s Hurley Convergence Center Digital Auditorium from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Emcee auditions will include a script-read of game introductions and in-game entertainment segments. Public address announcer auditions will include script-reads of roster lineups and in-game sponsor advertisements.

The FredNats also will need dozens of performers of the national anthem for the team's 70 home games. During auditions, people will be required to sing the anthem in full, in a cappella-style, without musical accompaniment.

The team also is looking for alternate mascot performers for the 2020 season. Candidates will wear a suit provided by the team and run a crowd engagement routine.
