FREDERICKSBURG, VA — With help from the Washington Capitals, Fredericksburg's new roller hockey rink is set to open this Saturday. The Capitals, along with officials from the City of Fredericksburg, will hold a ribbon cutting Oct. 27 to commemorate the grand opening of the rink.

The new rink in Dixon Park is the only outdoor, inline roller hockey rink within a 40-mile radius of the city, according to the Free Lance-Star. The rink was built through a partnership between the Capitals and the city, and was also supported through the new Fredanthropist program and the Fredericksburg Youth Roller Hockey organization.

The rink at 1300 Dixon St. includes a custom board system and a NOVA Play II flooring surface featuring the Capitals logo. The rink also features a Daktronics scoreboard with the Capitals logo.

The clinic is open to kids age 8-14, and all participants receive a free hockey stick. Pre-registration for the clinic is required. Skaters also are encouraged to bring inline skates and give the rink a try after the clinic is finished.

In addition to supporting the new rink construction, the Capitals are providing hockey equipment and teacher curriculum to the physical education department at all four Fredericksburg city schools, according to the city.
