Snow Likely Monday-Tuesday, Impact Still Unclear

Timeline and current estimates on accumulation for the Monday-Tuesday storm. Are you ready for more snow?

It’s best to prepare for a winter storm event, but forecasters are still hedging their bets on whether portions of the region will see much snow at all.

When? Rain will transition to snow overnight and into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The best chance for accumulation will be Tuesday morning into Tuesday evening.

How much? Accumulation is expected to be 1-3 inches for D.C. and areas south. North of the capital should expect 3-6 inches, according to the Weather Channel.

“Uncertainty exists with where some locally heavier totals may be found in the region,” Weather Channel forecasters report.

The Capital Weather Gang rates the snow as a ”nuisance to minor snowfall event.” Unlike the blizzard that arrived on time and with the expected accumulation, this storm is difficult to forecast, according to the Gang.

“Chief among the reasons for uncertainty is the unusual setup for the area in which it’s possible that just a small zone picks up solid snowfall while places 30-60 miles away see little or none,” they write.
