Weekend Weather Timeline: Rain and Storms, But Not For Long

It's been a pleasant week, but we could use just a little bit of rain. And, that's exactly what we're going to get this weekend: just a little bit.

Showers will actually start overnight Thursday, with storms possible by Friday afternoon.

The wet weather exits the forecast early Saturday, with temperatures near 70 degrees for the weekend.

By Monday, we could be back at 80-degree weather.

Central U.S. states will continue to struggle with intense storms next week, according to The Weather Channel. Our best chance for another brief round of storms won't arrive until next Friday.

Here's the latest Northern Virginia forecast from the National Weather Service.

Friday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Isolated showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. North wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 70.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.
