Abuse, Neglect Investigation Involving 2 Children Leads To Alexandria Indictment

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An Alexandria woman was indicted in a child abuse and neglect investigation with two victims, according to the Alexandria Commonwealth's Attorney's office.

A grand jury in Alexandria indicted Rhonda Holland, 40, of Alexandria, on June 10 on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and child abuse and neglect.

Holland had been arrested on July 1 following an investigation into allegations of child abuse and neglect starting in early 2023. Police had responded to the Alexandria fire station on North Paxton Street for a report of an abandoned child. According to prosecutors, the child showed signs of neglect and abuse. A police investigation found the child had been in the care of Holland.

During the investigation, police found an additional child with symptoms of abuse and neglect.

Both children received medical care and were placed in a safe environment through the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services.

Holland is being held without bail at the Alexandria jail and will be tried in Alexandria Circuit Court. If she is found guilty, the aggravated malicious wounding charge could carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, while the child abuse and neglect charge has a maximum sentence up to 10 years in prison.
