ALEXANDRIA, VA — If you've been following the activity at the former Shoppers space at the Potomac Yard Shopping Center, there has been ongoing work on a new store. Now it's confirmed that Amazon Fresh will open its store there on Thursday, July 25.

The store will open at 3801 Richmond Highway in Alexandria and feature the brand's latest brick-and-mortar store design. This will be the seventh Amazon Fresh store open in the DC region.

Amazon has closed select other Amazon Fresh locations in the region, including one in Crystal City not far from Potomac Yard, according to ARL Now. The e-commerce giant also halted plans for some new locations, but not the new Potomac Yard store. In a news release, Amazon said it "will selectively open new Amazon Fresh stores as we see positive customer feedback on the new format, as well as continue to open new Whole Foods Market stores."

The new Amazon Fresh in Potomac Yard will be a 50,000-square-foot store with selections of national and regional brands. Shoppers will find selections like produce, meat and seafood; a department with crackers, cheeses, and charcuterie; international condiments and sauces; grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, wraps and snack boxes; take-and-bake pizzas, burritos, and meals.

Over 35 regional brands like Tessemae's condiments, Smithfield, and True Made Foods will be sold at the store. Shoppers can also choose from Amazon's own brands of food — Aplenty, Fresh Brand, and 365 by Whole Foods Market. In addition, about 4,000 rotating grocery items will be offered each week with a 30 percent discount. Amazon Prime members can save 10 percent on additional grocery items.

Amazon Fresh stores offer grocery pickup, delivery, and Amazon Dash Cart to skip the checkout line using the Amazon app. Stores also have blue Alexa kiosks for customers to get assistance on finding products.

According to Amazon, surplus food from the Amazon Fresh store will go to the Capital Area Food Bank.

The Potomac Yard store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
