Naming Kitten Litter Offered As Incentive For Alexandria Pet Contest

ALEXANDRIA, VA — As the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria tries to reach its pet calendar contest fundraising goal in the last days, it is offering an extra incentive.

The nonprofit animal shelter's annual calendar contest fundraiser runs through June 30 at 8 p.m. Pet owners were encouraged to submit a photo of their pet for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria's 2025 calendar and try to get public votes for their pet. All submitted pets will appear in the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria's 2025 calendar, but those with the most votes will get prizes.

In the last days of the contest, anyone who votes gets a chance to name a litter of kittens that the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria takes in. Each vote is a $1 donation to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, which runs the animal shelter and provides other animal services.

For pets entered into the contest, the grand prize winner will appear on the front and back cover of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria calendar plus Metro buses. The winner also receives a professional photo session and invitations to Animal Welfare League of Alexandria events as the "Alexandria’s 2024 Animal of the Year." Second and third prize winners win a professional photoshoot as well.

The calendar contest is one of the organization's biggest fundraisers of the year. As of Thursday, it raised over $39,000 of a $60,000 goal.
