RESTON, VA — With schools closed, events canceled and some government offices delaying their opening times due to the big winter storm earlier this week, Reston residents frolicked in the snow.

Patch reached out to our Fairfax County readers and asked them to send us photos showing their experiences dealing with the season's first big snow fall. You'll find all of their submissions below.

National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday for much of the region, including the District of Columbia, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, northwest, southeast and central Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Hi,
I have been a Reston resident since 1996 and currently reside at Parc Reston Condominiums. I sent you several pictures of the first snow fall of 2024. However, one of them may be hard to decipher as there is no snow on the ground.

You really have to look very closely, but it is when the snow first started. Then, surprisingly and joyfully, 3-3.5 inches of powdery bliss was on the ground and looked so picturesque on the tree limbs.

I am a grown woman who unapologetically collects snow globes. I found them magical and endearing since childhood. As a young child when snow was expected, I shook each snowglobe voraciously, because I believed it was my good luck charm that would bring enough snow to go sledding and most importantly, for school to be closed.

I still shake them with each snowfall, just for the sheer joy of it.

There is nothing more magical than to wake up with the trees and ground covered in white powdery bliss.

Here’s to hoping we get a lot of snow, or at least some…
