Letter: Boysko, Salim Tell VA Lawmakers They Oppose Tysons Casino Bill

Virginia Sens. Jennifer Boysko (D-38) and Saddam Azlan Salim (D-37) sent this letter on Tuesday to the memebers of the General Laws & Technology's Subcommittee on Gaming expressing their opposition to SB 675 . The bill seeks to give the Fairfax County Board the authority to put a casino referendum on a future ballot

Members of the General Laws & Technology Subcommittee on Gaming,

Over the last week, we have had the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of voices, including hundreds of constituents, along with represenatatives from homeowner associations, towns and various civic groups. The consensus among these stakeholders is a resounding request to oppose Senate bill 675, which weeks to authorize a referendum on the construction of a casino in Tysons, VA. Tysons is located in the northeastern part of Senate District 37, a few blocks away from Senate District 38.

The concerns expressed by our constituents and community representatives are rooted in various considerations, including the socio-economic reprecuwsions and the potential strain on existing infrastructure. It is evident that the prospect of a casino has sparked apprehension among residents and civic groups who fear adverse consequences for the overall well-being of our community. It is crucial that we take into account the sentiments of those who will be directly affected by this proposal.

We understand the complexities surrounding such proposals, and we respect the democratic process that underlies the consideration of refrendums. However, we firmly believe that the concerns raised by our constituents and community groups in our districts deserve careful attention and thoughtful consideration. We respectfully request your opposition to Senate Bill 675.
