RESTON, VA — Tuesday was supposed to be the day when everyone returned to work or school following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, but Mother Nature had a different plan for Reston residents.

A winter storm warning was in effect to 10 a.m. on Tuesday for most of Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., according to the National Weather Service. While snow was expected to taper off during the morning hours, it will be replaced in some areas by sleet or freezing rain.

As a result, not only did Fairfax County Public Schools and government offices were opening on a two-hour delay, all federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area were closed, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Reston Association offices were also closed on Tuesday. If weather permits, they will reopen on Wednesday.

If you are stuck at home due to the snowstorm, Patch is calling for photo submissions showing how the first big snowstorm of the 2023-2024 season is shaping up in your neighborhood. Photos may be emailed to [email protected].
