Carjacking With Juvenile Victim Leads To Arrest After Crash

TYSONS, VA — A carjacking involving a juvenile victim was thwarted after the suspect crashed into a gas pump in Tysons Monday, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police with the Tysons Urban Team had been notified about a store theft around 4:32 p.m. Monday. According to police, the suspect fled with over $2,500 in merchandise into a parking garage, where he tried to open the door of a 2013 Kia Optima.

The driver, a teenager, drove away with the suspect holding onto the car door and being dragged. When the victim stopped and exited the car, the suspect took the car and drove off, according to police.

The suspect fled westbound on Leesburg Pike in the stolen car and attempted an abrupt U-turn. However, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a gas pump in the 8100 block of Leesburg Pike. He ran into the gas station, where police arrested him.

The suspect was identified as Mecca Lee-Bey, 20, of Washington, DC. He was charged with carjacking and grand larceny and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Lee-Bey also received treatment at the hospital for minor injuries during the carjacking. He is being held without bond.

The suspect was previously charged in an armed carjacking in southeast DC in January 2022.
