I-66 Crash, Rain From Ian Remnants To Start: DC, NoVA AM Traffic

NORTHERN VIRGINIA — Good morning, Northern Virginia and DC Patch readers! Before you head out the door, check out Patch's traffic report — which covers Northern Virginia and DC.

Here are the latest traffic updates that will impact your morning commute on Friday, Sept. 30. Prepare for a rainy commute later, because Hurricane Ian remnants are expected to cause precipitation Friday evening into the weekend.

On the Roads

As of 7:49 a.m., a crash on westbound I-66 near I-495 may cause delays. The right shoulder is closed.

As of 7:48 a.m., a disabled vehicle closed the right shoulder on southbound I-95 near Garrisonville Road in Stafford County.

As of 7:48 a.m., a disabled vehicle closed the right shoulder on northbound I-495 between Route 7 and I-66 in Fairfax County.

As of 7:42 a.m., a disabled vehicle on northbound I-495 east of Eisenhower Connector in Alexandria/Fairfax County closed the right shoulder.

As of 7:40 a.m., a disabled vehicle closed the right shoulder on eastbound I-66 near Route 28 in Fairfax County.

As of 7:32 a.m., a disabled vehicle on southbound I-495 west of Telegraph Road in Alexandria/Fairfax County closed the right shoulder.

As of 6:47 a.m., a crash and vehicle fire was affecting north directions of Purcell Road between Dumfries Road and Kahns Road in Prince William County. All lanes were closed.

On the Rails

On the Metro, Blue Line service is not operating south of Reagan National Airport through Oct. 22 due to Metro's Blue and Yellow Line construction. Shuttle buses and other alternatives are available. There is no Yellow Line service, with Blue and Green Line service replacing Yellow Line service.

Weather

Rainy weather from Ian's remnants will start Friday and continue through the weekend. On Friday, a chance of rain is mainly after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 66. At night, rain before 11 p.m., then rain and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. and likely rain after 5 a.m. Wind gusts may be as high as 28 mph during the day and 32 mph at night.
