Motorcyclist Dies After Crash On I-66 Express Lanes In Northern Virginia

State police believe a motorcyclist was speeding before losing control and crashing on the I-66 Express Lanes.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A motorcyclist died after a crash on the Interstate 66 Express Lanes last weekend, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 8:24 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 near the Route 123/Chain Bridge Road exit. Police believe a 2018 Yamaha FZ09 motorcyclist heading eastbound on I-66 was speeding and lost control. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle, when ended up on the left shoulder of the Express Lanes.

The driver, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital and died of his injuries. He was identified as Cody P. Riley, 36, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
