UPDATE: Per VDOT, the opening has been pushed to Wednesday morning due to weather.

VIENNA, VA — Roundabouts opening around Wednesday will provide a new traffic pattern at the Nutley Street and Interstate 66 interchange, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

When the roundabouts open around Wednesday morning, new traffic patterns will begin on the north and south sides of the redesigned Nutley Street interchange. The interchange was redesigned as part of the Transform 66 Outside of the Beltway Project, which featured new Express Lanes that opened last year.

Roundabouts will replace temporary traffic signals allowing left turns from the ramps from westbound I-66 to southbound Nutley Street and eastbound I-66 to northbound Nutley Street. Drivers will instead use these roundabouts to exit in these directions. Drivers entering roundabouts must yield to traffic already in the roundabout before they can enter.

When the roundabouts open, drivers from eastbound I-66 to northbound Nutley Street will take Exit 62 to northbound Nutley Street and stay to the left on the ramp, yield to southbound traffic, and use the roundabout to join northbound Nutley Street toward Vienna. Drivers heading to southbound Nutley Street from eastbound I-66 do not need to enter the roundabout.

Drivers from westbound I-66 to southbound Nutley Street will take Exit 62B to southbound Nutley Street South, stay to the left on the ramp, yield to northbound traffic, and use the roundabout to southbound Nutley Street toward Fairfax. Drivers heading to northbound Nutley Street from westbound I-66 do not need to enter the roundabout.

Another new traffic pattern will be temporary as bypass lanes are completed to give direct access from northbound Nutley Street to westbound I-66 and southbound Nutley Street to eastbound I-66. Drivers from northbound Nutley Street to westbound I-66 and southbound Nutley Street to eastbound I-66 will temporarily use the roundabouts to reach the exit ramps. The bypass lanes are expected to open in late spring 2023.
