VIENNA, VA — After new roundabouts opened at a reconfigured Nutley Street interchange at Interstate 66 in the Vienna/Fairfax area, drivers can avoid the roundabouts with a new bypass.

The Virginia Department of Transportation announced new bypass lanes will open around the early morning Wednesday. The new bypass lanes will let drivers on Nutley Street enter I-66 without using roundabouts.

Starting around Wednesday morning, drivers on northbound Nutley Street entering westbound I-66 will use a new bypass lane, which is separated from other northbound traffic. The bypass lane will be accessible before the bridge over I-66. Drivers will then exit right to the loop ramp to westbound I-66.

From southbound Nutley Street to eastbound I-66, a new bypass lane will be separated from other southbound traffic. Drivers will enter the bypass lane before the bridge over I-66 and take the loop ramp to eastbound I-66.

The roundabouts previously opened, providing access from westbound I-66 to southbound Nutley Street and eastbound I-66 to northbound Nutley Street. The roundabouts replaced temporary left-turn traffic signals as the interchange was reconstructed.
